The animation process of The Burning Haus is in advanced progress. The animation is taken over by my talented affilates Sun&Egg.
The production process is as following:
first I do the character and background design digitally in Photoshop, then I import the drawings (also the main key poses) into TOON BOOM Animate and do the basic posing if necessary, both steps based on the animatic. Then Sun&Egg do the animation paperless in TOON BOOM (line art), also based on the animatic, which is imported on a under layer. Later the coloring step will follow.
The animation scenes are licensed under a Creative Commons license, so if you’d like to use these animations for remixing or training or whatever purpose (except a commercial use) feel free to mail me to mail [ at ] nilsknoblich [.] com and I will send you a download key for the TOON BOOM Animate files.
Be prepared: I plan to release the whole finished film The Burning Haus under this Creative Commons license, so YOU can share and remix the film however you like.
On Sat 21st November the lovely people of rotopol in Kassel (Germany) invite for the start of the group show with the topic SECRET SERVICE, which will be one issue of a series of exhibitions under the term of post-democracy(more here).
I am going to take part, besides many other international and local aspiring artists. I will report soon.
This summer a few affiliates and me created the animation show Leuchtstoff via a projection on a face of a building in public space of Kassel (Germany). We were showing our animations during this years annual exhibition Spaziergang 09 of the art school, on a building directly besides the beautiful documenta museum Fridericianum.
We used a mapping technique, what means that we first shot a picture of the facade (from the exact position of our projector) and then animated on the image (that contains every window etc…).
I created the invading UFO characters. They were aimed to communicate with the spectators through design and text ballons.
Here’s one of the stories of my favorite UFO - the depressive one:

Last weekend I met with Georg Conrad in his studio in beautiful Cologne to work on the music concept of The Burning Haus. Georg is part of the emergent techno pop duo COMA. He and his fellow Marius Bubat rock the clubs all across Europe and they have releases on Kompakt, Firm and Dogtown Records.
It’s a great pleasure for me to have a collaboration with Georg.
Working together with him is big fun - we are totaly on the same wavelength. I forgot to bring my camera with me for my online documentation, so I did this quick sketch of Georg in the studio:
We need the music / jingle / theme for the scenes, when the Hero enters the stage and rescues the woman. The music is intended to support the action of the Hero in an uber heroic and glorifiying way. See the mentioned scenes in this excerpt of the Animatic:
I took some old superhero TV series themes as inspirationals for our theme, e.g.:
